1999: Colony 5 is founded by P-O Svensson and Magnus Löfdahl in March. The whole project is more of a hobby than a serious music band, and the music is more or less influenced by synth pop. After a while the music changes and the sound becomes harder and faster.
Colony 5 signed a contract with Memento Materia in 2001.Colony 5 is today one of Memento Materia/Prototyp's most successful bands. After the release of the bands debut album "Lifeline" the number of fans are ever increasing. The band have played live all over the world, making visits to Mexico, Russia and many of the European countries. After releasing "Lifeline" Johan was replaced by Magnus Kalnins as the band released their first hit single "Black".The albums "Structures" and "Fixed", presenting great danceable electronic popsongs, have established the band on the European electronic pop scene. The band have been nominated for the Scandinavioan Alternative Music Awards [SAMA] twice!
The bands latest album "Fixed" was such a success that Memento Materia now release "Re-Fixed", a remix album where artist Amplifier presents remixes of all the tracks featured on the original album.
"This has got to be the coolest new finding amongst plenty of underground electronic/synthpop movements outhere. "Lifeline" presents us with well-crafted electronic tunes that should make you jump out of your seat & dance all night long.
Musically, Colony 5 sounds very similar to De/Vision; or if you're not familiar with De/Vision, you should know what Depeche Mode sounds like. Yes, underground synth-based bands got lots of their influence from mainstream electronic groups such as: Depeche Mode, Cause & Effect, Camouflage,etc.....
The whole album mostly consists of upbeat tunes. It's not an old synthpop at all. While synthpop may have been originated in the 80's, Colony 5's music is the infusion of modern electronic plus with some EBM and plenty of synthesizers. It's a bliss !! You should give this one a try. Highly recommend it ..... Peace !! "
