some about them:
"Formed in Sheffield in the early Eighties and named for the energy and mystique they intended to instil into their songs, they started as a collective, eventually whittling down to Geoff Barradale, a singer possessed of a voice like honey being poured over gravel, and Nick Lockwood, a multi-instrumentalist who's happiest lately playing guitar.
Provocative, compelling, innovative - Vitamin Z, on Rites Of Passage, their debut album for Geffen Records, have fashioned a fresh and fully realized sound far ahead of its time. It's an accomplishment all the more impressive given the fact that Vitamin Z is a brand new musical entity, a creative collaboration that catches and holds with assurance and aggression far beyond their years. Simply put, Vitamin Z may well be among the most important new English arrivals in recent memory.
Assisting the duo was a stellar cast of supporting musicians, including Peter Gabriel, drummer Jerry Marotta, Chris Merrick Hughes, (percussionist for Adam Ant), guitarist Neil Hubbard, violinist Simon House and arranger Ann Dudley.
An especially integral part of the Rites Of Passage sessions was guitarist David Rhodes, perhaps best known for his work with Peter Gabriel and Blancmange. David went on to become a full-fledged member of Vitamin Z, based on the creative chemistry among the young artists.
Their "Burning Flame" single was a club favourite in Britain and appeared in dance charts all over America while in 1985.
Sharp Stone Rain, Vitamin Z's second album. Its title a reference to the bombing of a Northern Ireland church wherein 11 people were killed."Music is our freedom, our inspiration, our goal, our everything," explains the passionate Barradale. "We wanted a record we could believe in, one that was honest and genuine and human. And after a horrid four years during which everything bad that could happen to us - short of a plane crash - happened to us, we finally have the record we want. With no compromises." .... But the LP was not successful and the group split up. Barradale started the Wild Orchids and then began recording with Seafruit in 1998.
" "Rites of Passage" is still one of my favorite albums of all time, and 'Every Time That I See You' still takes a hold of me every time that I hear it.
I can still remember the moment that I first heard Geoff's incredible voice on MTV. I quickly jotted down the name of the Band, and rushed out the very next day to the local Sound Warehouse to get the cassette (sounds weird saying cassette doesn't it?). There were just 2 cassettes left, sitting on the shelf;how lucky was I, huh? Well, I never did see "Sharp Stone Rain" in the stores,so I never heard any of the songs on that album.
It's a shame that Vitamin Z never made it big."

"Great album from the late 80's ('89?). Burning Flame is a little more Pop than the rest of the album, and is probably the most "well known" song of the 11. I highly recommend this album if you are a fan of 80's synth pop."
