A rare and nice album for 80's collectors!
Biography:
Flip were formed in the mid 1980's in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire by Singer songwriters Tony Duke and Frank Walsh. Both Tony and Frank had played in various bands going back to the mid 1970's with their first group 'Tamberlaine'. Tamberlaine soon became Redwood and after recruting lead guitarist Robin Boult, Bass player Pete Trewavas and Ed Rowe on drums. The band's made their debut recording 'Just another Week end' for the 'Aylesbury goes flacid' compilation. Redwood played the London gig scene, usually in support slots during the height of the punk era. The band recorded demo's at Rockfield Studio's including the songs 'You' and 'At the Casino'. Redwood again changed their name to the Metro's finding a support slot with Duran Duran. After the tour Trewavas left to join Marillion and the band split. This band became Flip and by 1984 the band were signed to Arista Records, recording an album 'Flip' on 'Private I' records.It was recorded at Abbey Road, Wessex, Sarm and Air Studios and produced by Peter Collins and Colin Thurston. Eric Stewart (10cc) also produced and played on "Love incognito", he also added a solo on the track "Demand". The bands video for the single "Nightmares" was directed by music photographer Andy Earl.Two singles were released on Arista 'Plague of hearts'produced by Peter Collins (Nik Kershaw, Bon Jovi, Brian Setzer, Jewel etc.) and 'That's what they say about love'produced by Colin Thurston (Duran Duran, Talk,Talk etc.),which reached the lower reaches of the UK Singles Chart and also brought the band European success. The band enjoyed success overseas and made appearances on various TV shows in Europe.The Band split in 1987. Both Tony and Andy are still producing excellent music.

"The eighties saw the most commercially successful part of my musical career so far with the band "Flip" ( also called "Touch" at one stage)We made the album (imaginatively titled) "Flip" at the famous "Abbey Road" studios, meeting and working with some of my all time heroes. Eric Stewart of 10cc fame being one, and Kate Bush the other - Wow!!!Eric played guitar and produced one of the tracks "Love Incognito" The other producers were Colin Thurston (Producer - Duran Duran) and Peter Collins (Producer - Nick Kershaw / Gary Moore amongst many). Other musicians included Andy Richards and JJ, both of whom formed part of the Trevor Horn production team based at Sarms East and West studios in London, with JJ being the cornerstone of the band "The Art of Noise"We did most of the recording in Studio 3 at Abbey Road. Amongst the many historical albums made in this studio include the mighty "Dark side of the moon" by Pink Floyd.Three outstanding memories from our sessions there include playing table tennis in Studio 2. Now, for those who don't know, Studio 2 is where all those fab albums were recorded by "The Beatles". It was just unreal, probably the most surreal experience of my life,- just so much history! Also Eric singing a very special version of "I'm not in love" -just him on the studio piano. Thirdly, my encounter with Kate Bush, which is much too personal to go into here, no, this stays private!The band did OK, appearing on one of the last editions of the BBC1 programme "Crackerjack" and the single "That's what they say about love" went to number 1 in Holland.Click the link above to find out about the Andy's Diner CD. "I’m a singer/songwriter of Anglo Irish descent, (My mum was Irish). I’m currently based in the UK, although I’m more than happy to combine my love of music with my love of travelling.
My dad bought me my first Guitar when I was 9, he played banjo and Ukulele, so he showed me a few chords and I worked the rest out for myself.
Although my musical influences are diverse some of the main ones are The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Elvis, The Beatles, plus contemporary artists like Keith Urban and Martina McBride, My core sound is Country - Rock/Pop, Americana with a Celtic feel thrown in here and there.
I’m a member of The Performing Right Society (PRS) and a pro member of The Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). I’ve worked in most major studios in the UK and had recording and publishing deals with both major and indie companies in the UK, Europe and USA,with songs published by Warner/Chappell and Morrison Leahy Music. Working with co-writers and producers including Peter Collins [Bon Jovi, Leann Rimes etc] Colin Thurston [Duran, Duran], Dave Ambrose [Fleetwood Mac, EMI) D-Side, Eric Stewart [10.cc],Richard Niles and on my most recent trip to Nashville, Grammy award winner Bobby E Boyd. The publishing on my new material is free.
I’m in the process of recording my own EP, which I‘ll release independently later this year, and will be out on the road playing both solo acoustic gigs and some with a full band........I'm in the process of putting the band together, so if you're interested get in touch.
As a Songwriter, writing for other people, in addition to the catalogue of songs I have available for cover…. I’m currently working with several talented artists and co-writers. I’m always interested in exploring new writing, production and development partnerships and have collaborated on several co-writing and recording projects via the internet.
I'll be making regular trips to Nashville. "
